Overall: Food: Drink: Atmosphere:
An English-style local which comes fairly close to the mark and avoids the artifical trying-too-hard feel in most theme pubs.
One of a small chain of pubs they brew and serve their own beer including a hand-pulled bitter 'Fuggles' which makes it obvious which hops are used!
The Fuggles is good, though better if served without the sparkler - the staff are happy to do this if not busy - although served at the standard NZ 4 deg C which detracts somewhat from the flavour.
Also available on keg are a wheat beer, lager, dark ale and some seasonals with guest beers.
Friendly staff and a good atmosphere in this always busy pub.
NB: Children are allowed so brace yourself on a Sunday afternoon but the roast lunch is worth the nerve-shredding presence of rug rats.
